Located at the north end of Napa Valley, near the quaint town of Calistoga, Bennett Lane Winery is a charming and elegant escape from the noisy bustle of larger wineries in Napa Valley. Named the “friendliest tasting room” for its comfortable and welcoming ambiance, their wines are by far some of the best you’ll taste.
Bennett Lane Winery was inspired by Italy’s wine and food culture. Their winemaking philosophy is to produce wines that complement a meal rather than overshadow it. The results are the popular Maximus wines which they call their “feasting wines” – a red and white wine that can accompany most meals and celebrations, from simple dinners to relaxing al fresco lunches.

As a tribute to their passion for Italy’s wine history, each label features an authentic Roman denarius coin. Over 2,000 years old, these coins pay honor to wine and its significance in ancient Rome. In fact, during their travels in Italy, the winery’s founders collected these coins which are on display in the tasting room. Athena, the Goddess of Wisdom adorns the Reserve Chardonnay and Rosé. Bacchus, the God of Wine is proudly featured on the Cabernet Sauvignon and Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon and Magnus Maximus, Roman Caesar, is displayed on the Maximus Red Feasting Wine and Maximus White Feasting Wine.

Bennett Lane’s wines continuously receive critical acclaim. Winemaker Rob Hunter has garnered over 60 scores of 90 points or higher between publications such as the Wine Spectator, Wine Enthusiast and Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate. Year after year the popular Maximus red blend of Cabernet, Merlot and Syrah wine receives accolades from critics and visitors alike.

Many of their other wines - which include Reserve Chardonnay, Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Petite Sirah – are very small production and reserved primarily for the wine club. A must-taste is the 2014 Maximus Red Feasting Wine. Composed of 81% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc, 5% Petite Sirah, 4% Merlot, 3% Syrah, and 2% Petite Verdot, this approachable red blend showcases robust flavors of dried cherry, raspberry, blueberry, and caramel notes.
 

Signature Seated Tasting

A fabulous introduction to Bennett Lane Winery is through their signature seated tasting in the winery garden. Enjoy incredible views of the Palisades Mountains while tasting four of their signature wines, including Chardonnay, Maximus Red Feasting Wine, and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Reserve Seated Tasting

The Reserve Seated Tasting is a private tasting in the winery garden that features four Reserve wines: the Chardonnay and three Reserve Cabernet Sauvignons. This experience is for groups of 2-6 people to discover the wines and history of the winery. Your personal wine educator will pour four small-lot wines at a leisurely pace, allowing you the opportunity to sip and learn the full story of each bottling – the winemaking, fruit sourcing, cellaring and more. Priced at $45 per person, it’s a classic example of the hospitality that Bennett Lane is known for.

Wine Blending Experience

If you’d like a more hands-on approach, then you must check out the Wine Blending Experience. This begins with a sensory evaluation seminar focused on Cabernet, Merlot and Syrah – the principal components in Bennett Lane’s signature red Maximus blend – followed by the fun opportunity to blend your own bottle of Maximus Red Feasting Wine! Once you have your blend finalized you will also bottle, cork, foil, and label your very own individual bottle (one per person). Now that’s a true memento of wine country you won’t be able to get anywhere else! The experience concludes with a glass of your blend and a tasting of reserve wines.
