The Prager brothers (Peter, Jeff and John) and brothers-in-law (Kevin Rooney and Richard Lenney) thoroughly enjoy engaging with their visitors to dispel the myth that port is only consumed as an after-dinner tipple, or as a special treat. On the contrary, their philosophy is to enjoy ports every day of the year, and with all types of cuisine. The name “port,” and whether it can be used outside the country of Portugal, has been the topic of vigorous debate over the past few years here in the U.S. The good news is the federal government has grandfathered-in all wineries in operation prior to 2006. This leaves the port-producing wineries here free to continue labeling their wines as port … for now at least. At some point, a new industry name for this heavenly elixir may become adopted. In the meantime, the Pragers suggest you not worry about what the wine is named, but rather, how a quality port is made. And, the Prager family promises to help you find just the right one to suit your taste.
