Beaulieu Vineyard Reserve Room Visitor Experience
In keeping with the tradition and heritage of the Beaulieu brand, consumers have remarked about the comfort and elegance of the Reserve Tasting Experience at the winery. The Reserve Room is the perfect atmosphere in which to showcase the incredible Reserve tier wines that Beaulieu has been known for since the early 1900’s. Beaulieu is one of the few wineries in Napa Valley that can claim continuous production for over 100 years as well as a distinguished history of awards and innovation. Georges de Latour, Beaulieu’s founder and namesake of Georges de Latour Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, was instrumental in the development of the Napa Valley as a premier wine-producing region. He was a native of Bordeaux and recognized the similarities between the Rutherford benchland vineyards and those of his homeland. In 1938 de la Tour appointed the young Russo-French enologist, Andre Tchelistcheff as winemaker who set the standard for California cabernet for the next half-century. Today Joel Aiken – VP Winemaking and Winemaker Jeffrey Stambor continue to create wines that are crafted with finesse and refinement that is the heart of Beaulieu. About a year ago, in a Bloomberg wire story, John Mariani was asked what the best wine made in America was – he replied “That’s easy- Beaulieu Vineyard Georges de Latour Private Reserve, and it has been for more than 50 years.” Mariani continued to say that specific vintages of other American wines could match the virtues of “Georges”, but that none has ever shown the consistency of the unique Cabernet Sauvignon made in California’s Napa Valley since 1936. For the record, “Georges” has won the International Wine Challenge Competition Trophy in London twice: in 1999 for its 1995 vintage and again in 2004 for its 2000 vintage for the “best Bordeaux style wine” beating over 1500 competitors. When a guest visits the Beaulieu Vineyard Reserve Room, they have the opportunity to taste a flight of five Reserve wines that includes: Carneros Reserve Pinot Noir, Dulcet Reserve (a lovely blend of Cabernet and Syrah), Tapestry Reserve (Bordeaux varietal blend) and two vintages of Georges de Latour Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon. The tasting fee is $25. In addition, there is a daily Older Vintage selection that provides the guest the rare option to taste a wine that is perhaps several decades old – the fee is $10. Beaulieu Vineyard has quite possibly the most extensive Library Wine collection in Napa Valley and beyond. Housed in a lovely mahogany-lined cellar, these wines are coveted by discerning wine collectors from around the world. Each year, in early December, Beaulieu hosts its Older Vintage Tasting Event at which guests can taste selections from the library along with carefully paired food to enhance the experience. The staff at the Visitor Center is regarded for their exceptional wine knowledge and gracious approach. The Beaulieu Vineyard Reserve Room is located at 1960 St. Helena Highway in Rutherford and is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (closed major holidays). In addition to Reserve tasting, Beaulieu offers daily Appellation and the winery-only Maestro collection tasting flights. For more information, call (707) 967-5233 or visit www.bvwines.com.
