CLINE CELLARS
Paying Homage to Old Vines, Old Times
Cline Cellars is the natural viticultural heir to a tradition of wine
growing that dates back to the last part of the nineteenth century.
Valeriano Jacuzzi, Fred Cline’s maternal grandfather, was one of the
founders of the company that produces the eponymous spas and pumps. He
also considered the small Northern California town of Oakley, in Contra
Costa County (between Sacramento and the Bay Area) his home. It was
also home to the Italian and Portuguese families who had immigrated to
this area who were avid winemakers and wine consumers. Today only 600
acres of vineyards remain there – some of them among the oldest
surviving vines in California – and half of those are owned and
controlled by Cline.
