Imagery Estate Winery Releases Cabernet Franc
Just in time to honor dear ol’ Dad
On Father’s Day, Sunday June 19, Winemaker Joe Benziger invites you to taste the 2002 vintage of his Cabernet Franc. Cabernet Franc has a long history as a valuable complement to Bordeaux varietals Cabernet Sauvignon- or Merlot-based wines. Since Joe began crafting Cab Franc as a varietal wine in 1988, its popularity has grown for its generous mouthfeel, fruity palate and more subtle tannins than a typical Cabernet Sauvignon. Joe’s wine is richly flavored, complex, and well-balanced with a very long finish. He loves it most for its opulent, jammy blueberry and chocolate flavors, the subtle herbal notes and soft but chewy tannins in the finish. The bottle features a dramatic label by artist Enrique Chagoya of San Francisco, California. An art professor at UC Berkeley, Chagoya describes his work as “conceptual fusion of opposite cultural realities that I have experienced in my lifetime. I integrate diverse elements: from pre-Columbian mythology, western religious iconography and American popular culture. The art becomes a product of collisions between historical visions, ancient and modern, marginal and dominant paradigms — a thesis and an anti-thesis that end in a synthesis in the mind of the viewer.” 2005 marks the 20th anniversary of the first Imagery wines. Over the years, Joe has crafted award-winning wines from dozens of obscure varietals, overseen the Biodynamic transition of Sunny Slope Vineyard, and collaborated with Imagery Art Curator Bob Nugent to amass a collection of internationally renowned works of art. Imagery Estate Winery is located on scenic Hwy 12 in the heart of Sonoma Valley. The 20-acre estate houses a state of the art winery, tasting room, gift shop and art gallery. Many of the past and current Imagery labels are now available on various sizes of wrapped canvas in the winery’s gift shop. Visitors are welcome to tour the grounds including vineyard exhibits, a Bocce court and an outdoor patio for picnics. Imagery Estate Winery 14335 Hwy 12, Glen Ellen, CA. Open daily 10:00am to 4:30pm.
