VINEYARD HAVEN
A Wine Country Retreat In Dry Creek Valley
by Sue Straight, The Wine Wench There is a private oasis of luxury at the southern tip of Healdsburg’s Dry Creek Valley. Aptly named Vineyard Haven, this three bedroom home nestled among acres of Zinfandel vines offers work-weary travelers a vacation getaway that feels like home, or maybe even better than home. As you pull into the driveway, the scent of lavender and roses surrounds you. The property is beautifully landscaped with a rainbow of flowers (there are 77 rose bushes on the property!), fragrant herbs and fruit trees. Behind the house, vineyards stretch as far as the eye can see. There is a back deck, complete with a hot tub, BBQ and big redwood patio table with seating for eight people.
Inside the house, soft colors soothe the eye and cushy, overstuffed furniture invites you to stop and relax a while. Each of the three bedrooms is tastefully furnished – one has a king-sized bed and two have queen-sized beds – with fluffy down comforters and fine cotton sheets. There are two bright, airy bathrooms. One bathroom has a claw-foot bathtub for soaking and the other has a large marble shower. Both bathrooms have hairdryers, and are stocked with thick Egyptian cotton towels. The kitchen is a gourmet’s dream. It is completely stocked with everything a chef could want. There is plenty of counter space for preparing your favorite dishes, a four burner gas stove with double ovens and an impressive array of kitchen appliances, chef’s tools, cookware and serving-ware. Even the spice cabinet is loaded with all the basics. Staying in for the evening? The entertainment center in the living room houses a 27”screen cable TV and stereo with an excellent sound system. There are a variety of CDs, movies and board games available for guests. If you just have to work while visiting Vineyard Haven, there is a fax/copier/printer available and the house is equipped with wireless internet access. Vineyard Haven is one of the first places that I would suggest to out-of-town visitors. It comfortably accommodates up to eight people, so it would be perfect for a group getaway. Vineyard Haven would also be wonderful for a private romantic escape among the vines.
