FUME BISTRO & BAR

Fun, Good Food, and a Comfortable Seat

by Diana Greenwood
As the weather warms and the skies clear, put a little spring in your step with a night of fun at Fumé Bistro & Bar. This is the place locals frequent and with good reason. Featuring affordable, seasonally inspired cuisine, Fumé has a mouth-watering menu with a spotlight on California-grown ingredients and chef-proprietor, Terry Letson, makes food a celebration with ever-changing specials and clever events.
Plan to go green March 17th at the Fifth Annual St. Patrick’s Day Festival. The rainbow ends at Fumé where the menu is chock-full of Irish treats that won’t cost you a pot of gold. Choose from traditional favorites like Corned Beef and Cabbage and Guinness Beef Stew or try Limerick Ham, a slow roasted bone-in leg of pork, studded with cloves and basted with a mustard-juniper marinade. There are so many choices; you’ll dance a jig. Toast the luck of the Irish with a glass of wine from the extensive list that includes numerous Napa neighbors or order a pint of beer from the full bar.
Easy to find at 4050 Byway East (just north of Napa off Highway 29), Fumé Bistro is open Monday-Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., and on Sundays, Fumé is one of the most popular places for brunch, served from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with full offerings from the dinner menu afterward through 9 p.m. On non-Irish days, consider trying BBQ Baby Back Ribs or a specialty pizza from Fumé’s wood-burning oven. Seafood lovers will find selections such as Sautéed Petrale Sole and Grilled Prosciutto-wrapped Atlantic Salmon. Fumé has something for everyone and there’s a kids’ menu, too.
The bistro is spacious and casually dressed in white linen tablecloths, light woods and pale yellow walls where vibrant contemporary paintings by Terry’s talented wife, Sheri DeBow, add a touch of whimsy to the interior. There’s a street-side, wisteria-covered patio, great for people-watching and lazy afternoons sipping wine with friends. On cool Napa evenings, the heaters crank up to warm your toes. Terry says, “Join us for good food, great service and a comfortable seat.” Don’t forget the fun.
Locals keep the secret about fun specials for bar patrons but if you drop by for Happy Hour, 4 to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, you’ll find 5 Buck Ketel One Cocktails, $3 well drinks and drafts with complimentary appetizers. Served only at the bar every Monday night is 5 Buck Chuck (an insider’s joke), from 4:30 to 9 p.m. You’ll enjoy a grilled burger with fries while you gossip with the natives in the bar.
There’s never a dull moment at this place known for fun and comfort food.  Tuesday is Locals Night with complimentary amusé (little tastes) and corkage is complimentary. Don’t miss “A Blast from the Past” every Wednesday evening, featuring down-home, comfort food specials like dear old Mom made and on Sundays, beginning at 4:30 p.m., join the crowd for Filet Mignon Stew served with Garlic Mashed Potatoes and Herbed White Cheddar Biscuits. Doesn’t that sound like fun? Terry likes to remind you to arrive early for the Sunday stew as Fumé Bistro & Bar fills up fast. The word is out.
If you really can’t stop for a leisurely lunch, dinner, Sunday brunch or Happy Hour, consider ordering take-out. Fumé Bistro & Bar has thought of everything. Call (707) 257-1999 to place a take-out order or to reserve a spot where the locals hang out. For additional information, visit the webiste at www.fumebistro.com.
