Charles Creek Vineyard Hosts Local Artist Bert Kaplan
The works of local Sonoma County Artist Bert Kaplan are currently on display at The Charles Creek Vineyard Tasting Room and Gallery in downtown Sonoma. The show will continue to run through August 15th. A resident of the west county (Sebastopol area) since 1978, Bert has been creating his evocative paintings (pastels being the preferred medium) for the past 10 years. Landscapes, specifically depicting scenes of Sonoma, Marin and Mendocino counties, are a focal point of the show, with some unique perspectives on the still life genre, as well. His love for the creative act of capturing the spirit of the local landscape shines through in his colorful and imaginative works. In addition to original works, high resolution giclee prints, both framed and unframed, will be available for purchase. Of course, the full experience at Charles Creek is to enjoy a viewing of the artworks adorning the walls while sampling the new and current releases from the winery. In addition to multiple award-winning Chardonnays, (yes, that does mean multiple Chardonnays and multiple awards for each of them), new releases include a bright, fruit-forward 2005 “En Casa” Grenache (awarded Best in Class at the 2007 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition), a delicious 2004 “Pasatiempo”- Sangiacomo Vineyard Merlot, which took a Double-Gold Medal honor at the 2007 Grand Harvest Awards, and the 2003 vintage of Miradero, a classic Bordeaux-style proprietary blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot (winner of 4 gold medals thus far…). Also newly available, in the series of affordable wines labeled “En Casa”, produced exclusively for the Charles Creek wine club members (and Tasting Room visitors) is the 2004 En Casa Carneros Chardonnay, 2005 En Casa Syrah (Gold Medal winner) and 2004 En Casa Carneros Merlot. Since 2005 the winery has operated a Tasting Room, situated in a charming 1890s era storefront on the historic Sonoma Plaza. In addition to wine tasting and sales, the Tasting Room also provides space to show the work of local artists. The Charles Creek Tasting Room and Gallery exhibit changes regularly, showcasing emerging talent as well as established artists. The Charles Creek Vineyard Tasting Room and Gallery, open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., is located at 483 First St. West in Sonoma.
