Sterling Vineyards – Number One Wine by the Glass

At restaurants across the nation tonight, most fine diners will order a glass of Sterling Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon with their meal. Recently named the number one ranked wine in the “By-the-Glass” category in the Wine & Spirits Magazine 17th Annual Restaurant Poll, Sterling Cabernet is a clear favorite among diners and restaurateurs.
“Being named number one in this category proves that discerning diners and restaurateurs know they can rely on Sterling to produce consistent, quality wines that pair well with a variety of menu items,” said Paula Connelly, Director of Marketing for Sterling Vineyards.
More than 300 principals from top Zagat-rated restaurants across the nation completed the poll, each naming their best selling by-the-glass wines of 2005. Sterling Vineyards topped the list with the highest number of mentions per 100 responses.
According to Joshua Green, Wine & Spirits Editor, Sterling has remained a popular by-the-glass selection at these highly rated restaurants for the last ten years, consistently placing among the top ten brands in the poll. “As wine has grown increasingly popular in the US market over the last several years, there have been major realignments in the poll’s brand rankings – the results of a changing economy, changing tastes, and a new generation of wine drinkers coming of age. While many historically popular brands have lost traction in restaurants, Sterling has survived these dislocations and remains as popular in restaurants as ever,” said Green.
Director of Marketing for Sterling Vineyards Paula Connelly agrees the poll results send a positive message about the brand. “We are proud that our Sterling Napa Cabernet Sauvignon is being recognized for its excellence and value,” said Connelly. “Additionally, I think diners realize that the Sterling name reflects the quality of all our varietal wines, including Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Merlot and Pinot Noir.”
Founded in 1964, Sterling Vineyards crowns a 400-foot knoll, one mile south of the historic Napa town of Calistoga. The winery is open daily, accessible to visitors by aerial tram and offers stunning views of the surrounding Wine Country. Sterling enjoys a long-standing affinity for the cinematic arts and, through a program entitled “Sterling Salutes the Silver Screen,” is a sponsor of various film festivals around the country.  For the last three years, Sterling has produced the featured wines of the official celebrations of the Academy Awards®. Each summer, Sterling Vineyards hosts a series of outdoor movie screenings at its Napa winery and all proceeds benefit a charitable fund with the Community Foundation of Napa Valley.
