WHAT’S GOING ON HERE AND THERE IN THE WINE COUNTRY
By Millie Howie
During May and June there is so much going on in the Wine Country, it’s easy to decide on a winery trip on the spur of the moment. Ledson Winery in the Sonoma Valley salutes Dad with its “perfect weekend,” Saturday and Sunday, June 19th and 20th. There will be two days of great wine, classic cars and the famous Ledson Barbecue under the oaks. Admission is $20 per person. Call 707-537-3810 for information. If Dad enjoys being the first to taste the new releases of a fine wine, Benziger Family Winery is hosting a New Vintage Release party for the 2002 Tribute, their high ranking, extremely limited flagship wine. Drop in with Dad between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., Saturday and Sunday June 18th and 19th. There is no charge. For those who appreciate art Quady Winery invites a stroll through the “Reveiller Exhibition of Central Valley Artists,” June 11th and 12th. Hours of viewing are 10 a.m. till 5 p.m. There is no charge for viewing the art show, and just $10 for the wine tasting. Those fortunate enough to enjoy a three day weekend May 28th, 29th and 30th may want to accept Fenestra Winery’s invitation to their “Day in the Country” which is really three days, each featuring a gala tasting and sale of all the white wines from noon till 5 p.m. To mark the arrival of the merry month of June, the wineries of Alexander Valley are scheduling a valley-wide gala the weekend of June 4th and 5th. Each winery has picked a theme and a couple of the most enticing are the Tale of the S. S. Minnow featured at Stryker Sonoma where the Skipper ladles out samples of his original Watubi pork served with samples of the Stryker “striking wines,” and Robert Young Winery with a salute to the Swiss. Hours both days are 11 a.m. till 4 p.m. Tickets are $55, at all participating wineries or through the Alexander Valley Winegrowers. The magic number at Terre Rouge’s Spring Fete is ten. At their fun fete, from 11 a.m. till 4 p.m., Saturday, June 5th, there will be ten new releases to taste, ten things to eat, ten hands (The Doug Pauly Habanero Quintet) to play hot music, and ten fingers on each contender in a game of boules, all for $10 and you get a Terre Rouge logo glass to take home. • Alexander Valley Winegrowers, P.O.
