Plein Air Art Exhibit at Charles Creek
Charles Creek Proprietors Bill and Gerry Brinton present a preview showing of Sonoma Plein Air 2005 at the Charles Creek Vineyard Tasting Room and Gallery on Sonoma Plaza. Through September 10, visitors can view an array of canvases created by 45 celebrated plein air artists from all over the country and taste Charles Creek’s award-winning Chardonnays, Merlots, and Cabernet Sauvignons. “We are delighted to present this spectacular collection of art depicting nature at its finest and to support local artists,” noted Bill Brinton. “This is a wonderful opportunity to revel in all that Sonoma has to offer – our gorgeous surroundings, our talented and collegial community and, of course, our fertile land. What finer way to enjoy the kick off of the Sonoma Plein Air Festival than to pair beautiful outdoor paintings with the fruit of the land – Charles Creek wines.” The Charles Creek exhibition precedes the fourth annual Sonoma Plein Air event, a weeklong celebration of the century-old technique of outdoor painting. Sonoma Plein Air was established to showcase painting en plein air – in the open air – and to encourage and support art education in the community. Like the 19th century Impressionists, plein air artists work outdoors in natural settings, painting landscapes and scenes from everyday life. Plein air paintings are typically completed outside on location, capturing the light and the moment on canvas. All week long (September 5-September 9), local and nationally recognized plein air artists paint in a variety of locations around the county, together and on their own, culminating with a show and sale of their creations in the Sonoma Plaza on Saturday, September 10th. In addition to fine art, the Tasting Room features a spectacular lineup of Charles Creek Vineyard’s celebrated vintages, including: 2002 Las Patolitas Chardonnay, winner of the Best of Class Gold Medal at the 2004 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition; 2002 Vista Del Halcon Chardonnay, also winner of a Gold medal at the 2004 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition; 2002 La Sorpresa Chardonnay, winner of the Best of Class Gold Medal at the 2004 Sonoma County Harvest Fair; 2003 Las Abuelas Chardonnay, winner of a Gold Medal at the 2005 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition; 2002 Miradero Merlot blend, which was awarded 90 points at the 2004 California State Fair; and 2001 La Sonrisa del Tecolote Cabernet Sauvignon, which has won four gold medals including a Best of Class Gold Medal at the 2004 Los Angeles County Fair Wines of the World Wine Competition. The Charles Creek Vineyard tasting room is located at 483 First St. West, Sonoma, 95476.
