V. Sattui Winery
Elevating the Art of Wine and Food Pairing
Regarded as one of the most established wineries along Napa Valley’s Highway 29, the iconic V. Sattui Winery is marking its fourth decade in wine country this year. But don’t let the age fool you – there’s nothing old about their fresh approach to wine and food as they launch a new Discovery Experience.
Spearheaded by Danica Sattui (fifth generation) and Napa Valley restaurant veteran Marc Golick (who hosts their reserve tastings), the innovative culinary program was developed specifically to showcase V. Sattui’s collection of 90+ point wines and rare vintages. “We wanted to create a completely unique wine and food experience unlike any other in the valley,” Danica explains. “Ours heightens all the senses, using high-quality, seasonal ingredients to explore the concepts of complementary and contrasting flavors and their influence on wine.”
“It’s an approachable and educational experience which gives our guests the information and confidence they’ll need – a tool belt if you will – to experiment with these concepts in their own kitchen,” said Marc.
The private tasting led by their friendly, expert team features a generous seven-course pairing menu focusing on their highly-limited wines such as Prestige Cuvée, a Méthode champenoise sparkler paired with house-made crema di lardo with coriander-brined Sicilian olives stuffed with peppadew peppers or Quaglia Vineyard Ancient-Vine Zinfandel paired with house-cured Vittorio Rosso, fig compote and shaved Ancient Gouda croustad. There’s even a decadent sweet bite to complete the hearty samplings – a salted caramel torta and vanilla bean gelato is paired with their famed 130th Anniversary Madeira.
The wines from the pairing are available only at V. Sattui, and can be purchased along with the foods in their Marketplace, an impressive full-service deli selling artisan cheeses, house-made charcuterie, plus an array of imported Italian pantry essentials and confections. “Our guests love the pairings and tell us they want to re-create this experience at home,” Marc shares. “So we make it easy for them by having all the ingredients right here at V. Sattui.”
