“Rutherford Hill is a family owned winery,” says John Terlato, “And our family is passionate about and committed to crafting high quality wines.” At Rutherford Hill, a Terlato Family property, all five classic Bordeaux red varietals are hand-crafted under the watchful eye of winemaker Marisa Taylor Huffaker.   Huffaker only uses the highest quality fruit hailing 100% from vineyards inside the Napa Valley.

Founded in 1972, Rutherford Hill Winery was a pioneer in the development of California Merlot. Today, Merlot remains a flagship varietal among its collection of impressive wines.  Rutherford Hill sits on the secluded eastern hillside of the Napa Valley, just off the Silverado Trail. The well-appointed tasting room is inside the handsome wooden winery. Climbing roses and well-tended gardens add to the property’s charm. An expansive courtyard area is the setting for outdoor wine tasting, and picnic tables with stunning views of the Napa Valley are scattered among graceful olive trees. Winery visitors are delighted to encounter wines they have enjoyed in fine restaurants as well as other limited-production wines sold only at the winery. Along with an engaging collection of red wines, Rutherford Hill offers beautiful interpretations of Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc as well as a gorgeous dry rosé, several impressive red wine blends and a fortified wine, Zinfandel Port.

Daily Guided Tour with Wine Tasting
A guided tour of the winery, which includes the tasting of five Napa Valley red wines, launches daily at 11:30 a.m., 1:30 and 3:30 p.m. Tour guests are escorted through the winery’s cellars and magnificent cave system with stops to taste wines along the way. Winemaking techniques, Napa Valley information and Rutherford Hill’s history are all discussed. Groups are limited to 20 guests, $25 per person.
 

Special Offers
The tasting room always has an interesting special offer for guests. Vertical boxed sets are one example. Large format bottles and rare library wines are also available.
 

Plan Ahead
The popular tours and picnic grounds fill up fast. Call ahead to reserve a picnic table or a spot on a tour. When picnicking, please note that, due to legal reasons, only Rutherford Hill wines may be consumed.
