MacPhail Wines focuses on single-vineyard, small-lot Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from California’s finest growing regions. Traditional, Old World winemaking techniques are used with minimal intervention to deliver wines that are distinctive in flavor – to tell you a lot about the exceptional vineyards in Sonoma County and Mendocino’s Anderson Valley. Strong partnerships are forged with growers eager to be a part of this ongoing adventure.
A friendly team of wine educators lead you through the nuances of Pinot and Chardonnay by offering an array of seated tastings in an open, spacious and relaxed setting. Tasting options include: the Signature Tasting, where wines highlight their belief that wine is art with a splash of science ($20 per person, one fee waived per two bottle purchase), the Reserve Tasting, which explores top-tier wines including Mardikian Estate ($30 per person, one fee waived per two bottle purchase).
In addition, guests can now experience one of the most unique tastings in wine country, The Terroir Tasting. Inside the Tasting Lounge, you will find the Soil Wall showing eight-foot cross sections under glass of four vineyards – Toulouse, Pratt, Sundawg and Mardikian. Here they discuss the four key components to their award-winning Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays – soil, clonal selection, vintage and winemaking style. Everything you wanted to know about winemaking is bottled in this wine tasting experience ($30 per person, one fee waived per two bottle purchase, reservations are required).
MacPhail Wines features a 40-foot sculpture of welded red wagons designed by Napa artist Richard Von Saal as his interpretation of wine being poured from a bottle. Von Saal designed the Tasting Lounge using recycled, repurposed and reclaimed materials, and prominently features a soil wall to highlight soil pits from four iconic vineyards.
