An Iconic Winery that Makes You Feel on Top of the World!
Sterling Vineyards is one of the most sought after destinations in the world. With its stunning panoramic views, Greek architecture, historic artifacts, award-winning wines and guaranteed good times, Sterling Vineyards stands majestic above the town of Calistoga, offering a top wine tasting experience like no other.
For starters, an aerial gondola takes you 300 feet up the hill to the winery. At the top, feast your eyes on the rugged Mayacamas and Vaca mountain ranges that showcase both sides of the glorious Napa Valley. With a delicious glass of Sterling Vineyards® wine in your hand, you will marvel at the views and their extraordinary Greek architecture. Sterling Vineyards’ striking white building was inspired from Mediterranean-style architecture off the island of Mykonos, where Sterling founder Peter Newton often vacationed.
Newton’s love for history can be seen in the winery’s towers where it houses eight bells from London’s Church of St. Dunstan’s-in-the-East, originally founded in the 10th century. These ancient bells sound through the valley, tolling the Westminster Quarters chime on the quarter hour.
The winery was designed with the visitor in mind, incorporating galleries and overlooks that allow guests to view the whole winemaking process. The stunning Greek Mediterranean architecture was inspired by the Mediterranean island of Mykonos, a favorite vacation destination of Sterling’s founder, Peter Newton. Sterling Vineyards offers one of the widest selections of wines in Napa Valley, bottling over 20 different varietals each year.
Be sure to taste the Malvasia Bianca.
Virtually unheard of in Napa wine country, Malvasia Bianca is one of the most pervasive grape varietals. This interesting grape originated almost 2,000 years ago in ancient Greece, and is part of the expansive Malvasia grape family, which spans the world. Sterling added this wine to their portfolio because of its bright, fresh aromas and easy-going, inviting drinkability. Highly aromatic, Malvasia Bianca welcomes the senses with a mélange of exotic spices, candied ginger and orange blossom, which playfully dance through ripe nectarines and apricots. This wine is a must-have for any collector.
