San Antonio Winery
Century of Excellence
An integral part of California’s wine history, San Antonio Winery began its legacy in downtown Los Angeles in 1917, surviving the challenges of Prohibition, the Great Depression and World War II. As one of the oldest producing wineries in California, San Antonio Winery was built upon tradition, with four generations of the Riboli family involved in the art of traditional winemaking.
“Luck is always important! However, hard work and risk management are very important as well,” said Anthony Riboli. My grandmother always challenged business decisions. She always felt that you have to take some risk.”
To produce award-winning wines, the Riboli Family has established sustainable vineyards in California’s most prestigious regions, including the El Pomar District and Creston AVAs of Paso Robles, Rutherford AVA of Napa Valley, and the Santa Lucia Highlands and Arroyo Seco AVAs of Monterey County.
“Every year is different but we always strive to keep our wines consistent,” said Riboli. “I love the whole winemaking process. Mother Nature does not make it easy — that’s the challenge — but also where the passion is.”
Limited Edition 2014 Centennial Blend
San Antonio Winery continues their proud lineage of winemaking in Los Angeles and Paso Robles with their 2014 Centennial Blend. To commemorate 100 years of winemaking, the winery has crafted a stellar Bordeaux blend under the San Antonio label, comprised of 36% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Malbec, 21% Petit Verdot, 11% Petite Sirah and 4% Syrah. Savor this wine with heartier dishes such as beef stew, roasted leg of lamb or pasta with ragu meat sauce.
“This wine is an unorthodox blend of both Bordeaux and Rhône varietals from Paso Robles,” said Riboli. “It is a celebration of four generations of hard work and perseverance. We wanted an incredible wine, but we also wanted an incredible package.” Aged in French Oak barrels for the past 24 months, the wine evokes subtle notes of spice and vanilla. This complex wine reveals flavors of dark cherry and blackberry, offering a smooth and rich finish. Sourced from the family’s estate vineyards in the Creston and El Pomar Districts of Paso Robles, the wine truly evokes the spirit of the Central Coast, where the family has been farming since the early 1980s. Silkscreened in gold ink, each bottle comes with a custom felt bag.
“The Centennial Blend is a celebration of our past and a toast to our future,” said Riboli.” We wanted a wine with power and grace, ageability and immediate gratification. How many 100-year-old wineries exist in California, or even in the world?”
Celebrate Paso Robles
Further celebrating their rich history, the Riboli Family has recently opened a modern, energy-efficient winery in Paso Robles. The sustainable facility has been designed to minimize both water and energy usage. A new solar panel system will be installed in the near future.
San Antonio Winery’s pet-friendly tasting room is located on Highway 46 East at Buena Vista Drive. The family invites guests to come and taste a wide array of styles, including both foreign and domestic wines. Enjoy powerful Paso reds, crisp Monterey whites, or light and bubbly sparklers. Their lovely bistro is open daily for lunch, serving artisan pizzas, gourmet pastas and salads using locally grown produce.
“We have something for everyone from the expert to the novice,” said Riboli. “We want to make wine less intimidating and we want our customers to have fun. Come sample 100 years of excellence!”
