Spreading Joy to the Sierra Foothills
Rombauer Vineyards has long been known for its gracious hospitality at the winery’s tasting room in Napa Valley, and now the family-owned enterprise has expanded its footprint to include a new tasting room in the town of Plymouth in the Sierra Foothills. The new hospitality space is the result of Rombauer’s recent purchase of the Renwood Winery facility in Amador County, an acquisition that also included 20 acres of vineyards and a wine production facility.
“We are so excited to have this additional foothold in Amador County,” says KR Rombauer, second generation proprietor of Rombauer Vineyards. “The new tasting room gives us a tremendous opportunity to spread the Joy of Wine beyond Napa Valley, and we hope to see our club members, friends and neighbors at this new location often.”
Rombauer has a long, established history in the Sierra Foothills region. Founder Koerner Rombauer began farming grapes and making remarkable wines from the area in the mid-1990s, and he firmly believed it was one of California’s finest growing areas for Zinfandel. In addition to Rombauer’s own estate vineyards in El Dorado County, the winery also enjoys numerous long-term relationships with respected growers throughout Amador County.
“This acquisition brings our total vineyard holdings in the Sierra Foothills to 168 acres, which allows us to expand and strengthen our popular Zinfandel offerings,” says KR Rombauer. “My dad always envisioned Rombauer crafting more wine from this unique and special area. I’m sorry he isn’t here today to see his dream come to fruition but I know he would be extremely pleased.”
Surrounded by tall trees and lush landscaping, Rombauer’s Sierra Foothills tasting room features spacious indoor and outdoor spaces, including a tasting bar, covered patio, private tasting areas and a shady lawn ideal for tasting and picnicking. Guests are invited to stroll the grounds and taste locally sourced and produced Zinfandels from Rombauer’s estate and grower vineyards, as well as the winery’s tried-and-true favorites from Los Carneros and Napa Valley. Tasting flights as well as wines by the glass and bottle are available. To ensure the best experience guests are encouraged to make reservations in advance.
Speaking of Rombauer favorites, the winery was recently delighted to learn that its iconic Carneros Chardonnay was named the #1 Chardonnay in Wine and Spirits Magazine’s 30th Annual Restaurant Poll.
Every year this well-regarded magazine conducts a survey of the top restaurants across the U.S., asking managers and sommeliers for data regarding wine sales and trends and compiling lists of the most popular bottles and brands. Rombauer Chardonnay has been among the Top Ten Chardonnays for the last 16 consecutive years, but 2019 was the first year the wine snagged the #1 spot. The Rombauer brand also ranked #4 in the magazine’s Top Ten Most Popular Restaurant Wine List Brands.
“This highly-anticipated annual poll provides a glimpse into the most-requested wines and brands in fine restaurants across the U.S.,” commented KR Rombauer. “We’re thrilled to know that restaurant patrons are asking for Rombauer Chardonnay when they enjoy a meal out on the town.”
