Founder Rob Murray
With an agriculturist heritage, owner Rob Murray, graduated from Cal Poly – SLO and set off to grow an already impressive resume in agriculture with Dole in Hawaii and managing vineyards in Lodi. In 1997, Murray returned to the Central Coast. Throughout the years Murray and a team of investors have acquired vineyards throughout the San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara county wine growing region, totally over 1,000 acres. The entry into winemaking came about as each year Murray would have some of the fruit made into wine to demonstrate the quality of the vineyard. After a few years, this segued into the formation of Rabble Wine Company. In addition to the vineyard and winery ventures, Murray and his wife Nancy are also the owners of Foremost Wine Company, one of San Luis Obispo’s most recognized fine dining hot spots. Named in the “Top 100 Restaurants” by Wine Enthusiast magazine, Foremost has redefined farm-to-fork dining on the Central Coast. Murray credits a stellar team at both the winery and restaurant in providing the ultimate experience for guests. The winery is led by President Caine Thompson and Jeremy Leffert, the Director of Winemaking. Murray is excited about the addition of Thompson to the Rabble team. Known as a trailblazer in the New Zealand wine scene, Thompson is ready to take Rabble and Tooth & Nail Winery to the next level. “I like to push boundaries while keeping quality and innovation at the core of company culture—the very hallmarks of Rabble Wine Company,” Thompson said. “I will continue to develop Rabble as a winery that stirs public opinion, inspiring people to think differently about wine.”
Rabble Wine Company
The very definition of rabble (a disorderly crowd; a mob) is the exact goal of Rabble Wine Company. With a mission to push the public to incite a riot in the world of wine, Rabble Wine Company is doing just that with their trending, edgy portfolio crafted by acclaimed winemaker Jeremy Leffert. The lineup features four distinct brands – Rabble, Tooth & Nail, Amor Fati and Stasis. Rabble wines are single varietal, embracing the characteristics of the grape, place and mindset. Labels depict nature’s wrath, and include a Pinot Gris and Tempranillo. The Tooth & Nail brand features blended wines, which are bold, unconventional and unapologetic. Tooth & Nail’s “The Fiend” (90% Malbec, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon) recently received a 93 Score from Wine Enthusiast, known for its luscious palate. The Tooth & Nail labels are John James Audubon originals of beasts fighting “Tooth & Nail” to survive. The small lot Stasis wines originate from the maritime climate of Santa Barbara County, featuring a great minerality and complexity, with the label an original engraving by John Boydell depicting Romeo joining Juliet in eternity. Wines include an award-winning Albarino and Pinot Noir. Amor Fati wines are the winery’s most lush wines. Translated in Latin to “The Love of One’s Fate,” Amor Fati wines are the reward of patience with nature as the wines are often harvested in late-Fall. With a line-up that includes a Grenache and Cabernet Sauvignon, the labels are renditions of William Blake’s “The Marriage of Heaven and Hell.” If you look deep into the symmetrical label, you’ll find a naked woman embracing the hand of a mermaid and a small child, all while riding a pink dragon—drink more to see more!
