Vineyards & Wines
Pope Valley Winery and its vineyards are nestled in the North-Eastern hillside valley above the Napa floor in the small town of Pope Valley, part of the Napa Valley, an area well known for producing some of Napa’s great Cabernets and other varietals. Pope Valley has a warm days in the spring and summer months with cool evenings and mornings which allow the grapes to hang on the vine long enough to ripen to their fullest potential and cool enough at nights to develop complex varietal aromas.
2016 Chenin Blanc
This mouth-watering Chenin Blanc is the perfect alternative to Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Gris. To deliver the full expression of this grape this vintage was crushed, pressed and fermented cold to show off its aromatics. Chill and pair this wine with oysters on the half shell, shrimp cocktail, cucumber salads and like Summertime fare. This vintage of Chenin Blanc leads in with fresh crisp granny smith apple, passion fruit and fresh fig. The palate is crisp and fresh with notes of citrus zest and a refreshing minerality on the palate.
Their single vineyard Sangiovese is like warm cherry pie in a glass. This wine is a light garnet color. Pair this wine with backstrap porkchops or a thin crust pizza, topped with fig, blue cheese arugula and hot coppa salami. This vintage boasts aromas of cherries jubilee, cinnamon and caramelized sugar. The palate follows through with the flavor of spiced cherry pie filling balanced by subtle acidity and a long lingering finish.
This is a single vineyard Merlot for those who say they don’t like Merlot. With a dark purple red hue this is one of their most versatile wines. They highly recommend to have this with anything off the grill. Especially barbequed ribs and baked beans prepared with bacon and brown sugar. Inviting bosenberry aromas on the first sniff. With subtle notes of cocoa and baking spices that linger in the background. The palate reflecting blackberry pie. It has welcoming fresh acidity, restrained tannins and a smooth finish
2014 Cabernet Sauvignon
This single vineyard wine is a big, bold Cabernet—elegantly balanced and aromatically complex. Pair with rich red meats, as well as, roasted lamb chops with rosemary and fingerling potatoes. This vintage consists of warm aromas of black cherry, cassis and dried cranberries
A Little History
Pope Valley Winery was founded in 1897 by Ed under the name Burgandy Winery and Olive Oil Factory. With a colorful history including a stint during prohibition with Al Capone and a number of family owners throughout the years the winery has stood the tes of time. In 1997, the Eakle family, Napa valley natives bought the historic winery and revitalized the operation. In 2009, the next generation of the Eakle family, the brother and sister tag team, David Eakle as Director of Winemaking & Operations and Diana Eakle Hawkins as General Manager dove in and took over to further grow the winery and bring their vision and passion for premium wine to the establishment.
