Plan B Wine Cellars
Ventura has long been known as a surfing destination, but change is in that cool sea air. Whether you are headed north to more typical wine destinations or south on the trip back to Los Angeles, you owe it to yourself to take a break and find a new wine country destination. Plan B Wine Cellars, located in mid-town Ventura, is one of those places that makes you feel like you want to stay. The tasting room is no room, but a space carved out of the barrel room itself. Seated next to racks of barrels filled with aging wine, it’s easy to get comfortable while enjoying a tasting flight, a glass, or a bottle with friends and family. Using grapes grown from Santa Barbara County to Paso Robles, the wine is produced right where you taste. With a reputation for high quality red wines, those in the know are also spreading the word about the signature monthly event known as “Second Sunday Supper,”—a food truck/live band formula for a great Sunday evening wrap up to the weekend.
Owners/Winemakers Marlow and Janis Barger started Plan B Wine Cellars as an alternative to retirement, knowing they would rather take a risk than regret not taking a chance. Years of research (wine tasting) has given them the knack for creating the space and experience that pairs with great wine to create something memorable. As Marlow often says, “there is a lot of good wine out there, the only way to truly differentiate our brand from the masses is to provide something more than just great wine, and we truly strive to provide a complete experience.” With their unique environment, a growing portfolio of well-crafted wine, and their growler program, it looks like Plan B Wine Cellars has found a winning combination.
