Niner Wine Estates

Niner Wine Estates is represented by a striking, can’t-miss, property on Highway 46 West. The stone barn building is home to the Niner Wine Estates Hospitality Center. An avid traveler and gardener, owner Pam Niner came across a photograph of a similar structure located in the English country-side. This photograph was then used as the inspiration for Niner Wine Estates.

Co-owner, Dick Niner, began his journey to the wine industry many years prior. In 1996, while in San Luis Obispo for business, Dick came to realize the potential of Paso Robles as a viticultural investment. In 1999, Dick and his wife Pam decided to purchase Bootjack Ranch, a premium vineyard that was planted to 54 acres of wine grapes. Since then, Dick and his vineyard manager, Jason Yeager, have expanded the ranch to 155 planted acres which includes Bordeaux and Italian varieties such as Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Carmenere, Malbec, Petit Verdot and Sangiovese. In 2007, the Niner’s planted 18 acres of Grenache Blanc, Syrah, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon.

In 2010, an additional 26 acres of Rhône varieties were planted, including Marsanne, Mourvedre and Roussanne. These varieties of wine grapes are used in making Niner Wine Estates wines. Winemaker Amanda Cramer artfully crafts Bordeaux, Italian and Rhône style wines from the two estate properties in a LEED certified, gravity-flow winery. The winemaking processes are performed to produce the highest quality wine possible while utilizing sustainable practices. The Production Winery is located on Anderson Road, just one mile from the Hospitality Center. However, at the Hospitality Center, guests are invited to tour the Demonstration Winery, which represents the best practices used in the Production Winery. Amanda produces several varietal-specific wines including a crisp and refreshing Sauvignon Blanc and the popular food-friendly Sangiovese. Gaining popularity are Niner Wine Estates blends, which include the unique red, Twisted Spur and the elegant Bordeaux-style wine, Fog Catcher. A selection of five Niner Wine Estates wines can be sampled daily at the Hospitality Center for $10 which can be waived with wine purchases.

In addition to daily wine tasting and occasional tours of the Demonstration Winery, the Hospitality Center is also a venue for several food and wine events throughout the year. A state-of-the-art, commercial- grade kitchen welcomes local chefs who teach students how to prepare and then serve gourmet meals, all perfectly paired with Niner Wine Estates wines. Chef-taught cooking classes are offered year-round. One upcoming class will be taught by Chef Charlie Paladin Wayne on June 17th. He will teach students how to utilize “The Whole Lamb.” Chef Andre Averseng will host an “Italian Inspired” cooking class on July 7th. To learn more about Spanish Tapas, join Niner Wine Estates as they host Chef Tom Fundaro on July 21st. In addition to these chef-taught cooking classes, Niner Wine Estates offers several wine education seminars and seasonal promotions throughout the year, like the recent “Bike to Niner” earth month promotion where guests who bike to Niner Wine Estates receive complimentary tastings and special wine discounts.
