Relax and Stay a While
Matrix Winery is located in the Russian River Valley, just a short drive from Healdsburg. Jump in your car and head out beautiful, vine-studded, gently winding Westside Road for a few short miles and you’ll find yourself at their front gate, which is flanked by a pair of life size statues of beautiful semi-clad maidens. The garden-like front entrance is beautifully landscaped and shaded by magnolia trees. A long, rectangular marble fountain splashes a welcome and picnic tables are scattered about, shaded with festive black and white market umbrellas.
Around the side of the building, a bocce ball court invites visitors to play a bit and wisteria-covered arbor shades more picnic tables and provides a scenic view of the Russian River Valley.
This is a place where you will want to relax and stay a while.
A Perfect Place to Taste a Few Delicious Wines
The tasting room recently underwent a complete remodel and it’s gorgeous! It is large and airy, with open beam ceilings and lots of windows to let in the Sonoma County sunshine. A long bar spans one side of the room and tall bar tables and chairs are placed around the room for seated tastings.
A Mother-Daughter Winemaking Team
Winemaker Diane Wilson has long been a force to be reckoned with in the wine industry, winning hundreds of medals and awards for her fantastic wines at Wilson Winery, deLorimier Winery and now Matrix Winery. Her talented daughter, Victoria, recently joined the family business to help her mother produce her award-winning wines.
The Yum Factor
Diane Wilson has been known to talk about crafting wines with “The yum factor,” meaning that she believes in making approachable, balanced, delicious wines. I have to agree – I’ve been a fan of her winemaking style for years. I tasted several wines at Matrix and my favorite wines were:
2014 Estate Pinot Reserve: Seductive scents of black cherry, orange peel, potpourri and baking spice lure the taster into a silken mouthful of deliciousness.
2015 Petite Sirah: This absolutely yummy wine is big and plush, with oodles of plum, blackberry, black cherry, peppery spice and earthy aromas and flavors.
Take my advice and go visit Matrix Winery. You’ll be glad you did!
