Casual Graciousness of Santa Barbara County
Nestled under California pepper trees and overlooking the Alamo Pintado Vineyard between Solvang and Los Olivos, Lincourt retains the rural charm and simplicity of an earlier era; it’s one of the reasons people travel to this region. Once a dairy property—an original 1926 Sears Craftsman kit home which sold for around $400 at the time—serves as one of the most unique and historic tasting rooms in all of Santa Barbara. The Lincourt picnic grounds, lawns and gardens are the perfect spot to spend a leisurely day with family, friends and a bottle of wine.
Named after proprietor Bill Foley’s daughters, Lindsay and Courtney, the winery produces benchmark wines from grapes grown in two estate vineyards located in the cool Sta. Rita Hills as well as the warmer Santa Ynez Valley. Lincourt is one of those rare wineries capable of producing world-class bottlings from both Bordeaux and Burgundian varieties while incorporating sustainable methods that have elevated the winery to the upper echelon of Santa Barbara County.
Hand Crafted from Start to Finish
At Lincourt, the winery harvests fruit based on flavors, not numbers. Utilizing small-lot fermentation and French oak barrels, Winemaker Lorna Kreutz is involved in every step of the process. Lorna Kreutz, who began her winemaking career more than a decade ago in the Sta. Rita Hills, carefully handcrafts the boutique style wines to reflect the nuances of their terroir. Her efforts do not go unnoticed. The wines consistently score high acclaims from top publications including Wine & Spirits and Wine Spectator. In fact, the 2014 Rancho Santa Rosa Chardonnay and Pinot Noir both scored 93 points in Wine Enthusiast’s March 2017 issue.
The wines produced at Lincourt are 100% Santa Barbara County, with estate vineyards in Santa Ynez and the Sta. Rita Hills, including Alamo Pintado (Sauvignon Blanc), La Cuesta (Cabernet, Merlot), and Rancho Santa Rosa (Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Syrah). The soils are maritime-based and the weather is consistently cool, creating rich silky wines thanks to ocean breezes.
Wine and Food Pairings
No meal would be complete without Lincourt’s award winning wines. Wine member favorites include the Rancho Santa Rosa Chardonnay, with notes of tangerine, spices, and fresh citrus zest. Its complex palate, vibrant acidity and minimal oak showcases the true varietal characteristics of Chardonnay produced in the Sta. Rita Hills AVA. Pair this wine with fresh pea and linguine pasta served in a lemon cream sauce.
The 2014 Rancho Santa Rosa Pinot Noir is another favorite, exemplifying the character of both the variety and the site. Aromas of bright boysenberry fruit and black pepper lead into flavors of dark plum, cranberry, sweet tobacco leaf and black pepper. This is the perfect wine to pair with your favorite grilled pork or steak.
Tasting Room Experiences
The Lincourt Tasting Room offers a range of experiences for guests. A friendly, knowledgeable tasting room host will guide you through your tasting, describing each wine as it is poured to help identify the aromas, flavors and unique personality of each wine. Tasting fees begin at $10.00 and are complimentary for parties up to four persons for wine club members. Walk-ins are welcome, or guests can make an appointment for more personalized experience, including wine and cheese pairings or vertical tastings. In order to provide guests the optimal tasting experience, Lincourt asks that parties greater than six call (805) 688-8554 or email the winery at email@example.com to make reservations.
