A bit of History
Lincourt Vineyards retains the rural charm and simplicity of an earlier era. Founded in 1996 by Proprietor Bill Foley, Lincourt takes its name after Foley’s daughters, Lindsay and Courtney. Since its founding the winery has gained notoriety through producing benchmark wines from grapes grown in two estate vineyards located in the cool Sta. Rita Hills as well as the warmer Santa Ynez Valley. Lincourt is one of those rare wineries capable of producing world-class bottlings from both Bordeaux and Burgundian varieties while incorporating sustainable methods that have elevated the winery to the upper echelon of Santa Barbara County.
One of the most unique features of Lincourt is its history. Originally a dairy farm, today the old milking barn houses a state of the art winery, and their tasting room is a remodeled 1926 Sears’ Craftsmen kit home. This quaint structure today welcomes thousands of visitors annually to sip, sit and enjoy the wines and ambience of Lincourt Vineyards.
Under the direction of Lorna Kreutz, Director of Winemaking, Lincourt utilizes small-lot fermentation and French oak barrels. The wines produced are 100% Santa Barbara County. They have estate vineyards in Santa Ynez and the Sta. Rita Hills, including Alamo Pintado (Sauvignon Blanc), La Cuesta (Cabernet, Merlot), and Rancho Santa Rosa (Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Syrah). The soils are maritime-based and the weather is consistently cool, creating rich silky wines thanks to ocean breezes.
Experience the Casual Graciousness of Lincourt
A visit to the Lincourt tasting room lends a quint and cozy atmosphere. The fully updated tasting room has three distinct tasting areas. The standard tasting flight includes five wines, two Chardonnays and three Pinot Noirs. Their current lineup includes the 2014 Zoula Nunn Chardonnay, which has earned 91 Points from Wine Enthusiast along with the 2014 Rancho Santa Rosa Pinot Noir which snagged 93 points from Wine Enthusiast. As you taste through their current offerings, your tasting attendant will share with you the winery’s history, winemaking methods and sensory notes.
For an elevated experience, taste through Lincourt’s black label wines named in honor of proprietor Bill Foley’s wife, grandmother, mother, aunt and daughters. These wines showcase some of Lincourt’s best and most expressive fruit, handcrafted with each wine’s unique personality.
The tasting room is set among estate vineyards and under California pepper trees. Picnic on the patio, under the veranda, or at one of the many inviting tables spread around the area as you take in views of the estate vineyards. You can even challenge your friends to a game of corn hole as you relax and enjoy your wine.
