Korbel Champagne Cellars
A Favorite Daytrip Destination
For 137 years, Korbel has been bottling some of the finest California champagnes from its facility located along the scenic Russian River Valley. A favorite daytrip destination for visitors near and far, Korbel is ripe with history, intrigue and, of course, sparkling wine.
Located just 20 minutes from the rugged Sonoma Coast and only a five minute drive to the ancient Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve, Korbel is situated along one of Northern California’s most travelled and storied scenic river roads.
Korbel has held fast to the time-honored French tradition – methode champenoise – in which the champagne is fermented in the very bottle from which it is served. Learn more about this fascinating process by stopping by the winery for a complimentary tasting and tour.
Besides sparkling wine, Korbel also produces still wines found only at the winery or through the Korbel Wine Club, as well as 4 varieties of California brandy, including Korbel 12 – a California brandy aged for more than 12 years.
A 50-minute historic walking tour departs daily 11 a.m. to 3p.m., from the Korbel Railroad Station, built in 1876. Each docent-led tour takes visitors through the antique wine cellar, including a stop in the estate museum to see artifacts from the winery’s inception. Don’t miss the short film on the history of Korbel.
Also not to miss is the Garden Tour, April through mid-October, Tuesday through Sunday – Tour the original gardens planted in the 1880s.
