A Wild and Pleasant Place
Australian winemaker Mike Brown aptly named his winery Kalyra, an Aboriginal word meaning a wild and pleasant place; a visit to Kalyra propels the wine taster into an atmosphere that is wild, crazy, fun, educational, filled with laughter, Hollywood history and a diverse selection of wines. The Kalyra Tasting Room is a place like no other.
Sip In the Sideways Effect
Back around 2003, a film crew was looking to make a movie, they approached Mike Brown, made a proposal, built a tasting room set at Kalyra and in 2004 the film Sideways was released, instantly becoming a cult film classic. The Sideways effect lives on in Kalyra’s tasting room. Come sip wines, enjoy the patio overlooking the vineyards, relax and enjoy eccentric fun events along with the wines and people of Kalyra.
There are two wine tasting menus: The Sampler Flight-5 unique estate varietals including a Black Muscat dessert wine, or The Reserve Dessert Flight, featuring 5 dessert wines or “Sticky’s” as they are called down under.
Get Crazy-Have Fun-Help the Community
There is no shortage of events at Kalyra, where Mike has created an Australian Outback feeling.
Come sit under the stars at a Kalyra stargazing party. May through October (one Saturday a month) attend Family Movie Night, featuring such classics as Finding Nemo, Return of the Jedi, and always ending with, what else: SIDEWAYS! Wine and food are always available at events.
All events are tied to FUNdraisers, so you will help your local community and charities each time you attend one of Kalyra’s unique happenings. Check www.kalyrawinery.com often for up to date activities!
