Hunt Cellars Wines Receive Their Due
You don't have to drive all the way to Napa to find the award-winning wines you are looking for. Hunt Cellars has a variety of wines that have been indistinguishable from the highest quality Northern California wines in blind tastings. When you visit Hunt Cellars you can try one of their Cabernets, such as the 2014 Cabovation, or a Petit Verdot, such as the One Hit Wonder.
Owner David Hunt said, "We have a distinctly different taste from most of the other wineries in Paso Robles." He added, "Our wines don't taste like Paso, they taste like Napa Valley."
Another benefit of Hunt Cellars wines is the price. You can find wines of the highest quality for a fraction of the cost of those from the Northern regions. While a Cabernet from Napa might cost more than $150 to $350 one of similar quality can be found at Hunt Cellars for $75.
It’s All About the Location
When looking for reasons why Hunt produces wines of superior quality, one of the first things mentioned is the location of the vineyard. Hunt said his vineyard is located in a region influenced by the coastal Cambria weather and the warmer temperatures from the Templeton Gap. With swings in temperature from warm to cold, and a 50 degree difference from the hottest to coldest times of the day in some cases, the grapes have a perfect environment for producing Hunt wines.
Another thing that makes Hunt wines special is the soil in Destiny Vineyards. The soil is calcareous, with white limestone, and sandy elements. The soil isn't rocky, with no boulders, and provides the basis for four or five different terroirs.
Hunt said his vineyard is special and produces unique wines. He added, “The wine is magic in a bottle.”
The New Hit Wines
Hunt has recently received accolades for many of their 2013-2014 releases. The names say it all – Maestro, Thriller and Bon Vivant all received 92, 93 or 94 points.
• The 2014 Cabernet Cabovation received 94 points
• The 2014 Cabernet Bon Vivant received 93 points
• The 2013 Red Velvet received 94 points
• The 2013 Petit Verdot One Hit Wonder received 93 points

• The 2013 Thriller received 92 points
