Chateau St. Jean Winery
Taste Delicious Sonoma County History
Chateau St. Jean is truly a grand historic lady in Sonoma County’s wine industry. Built in 1920 as a summer home for it’s original owners, the gorgeous Italianate villa sits proudly amidst a rolling expanse of vineyards. The winery was founded in 1973 and the first wine was made on the property in 1975 by legendary winemaker, Dick Arrowood. The winery made history in 1999 by winning the prestigious “Wine of the Year” award from the Wine Spectator Magazine for its 1996 Cinq Cèpages (French for “five varieties) Cabernet Sauvignon, a Bordeaux style blend of five varieties of red wines.
Relax and Stay a While
Manicured granite crunches underfoot as visitors walk past burbling fountains, a small demonstration vineyard and elegant rose gardens as they stroll towards the well-appointed tasting rooms (Chateau St. Jean has two tasting rooms – the Reserve Tasting Room and the Main Tasting Room). It’s well worth taking the time to enjoy both for the full experience.
The Main Tasting Room is large and airy, with a long wooden tasting bar spanning the back of the building. Large arched windows and French doors let in the warm Sonoma sunshine. Displays of clothing, sparkly jewelry, books, glassware and snacks are artfully displayed around the room. This is the place to try a variety of current releases and shop a bit. No reservation is required.
The Chateau is the original building and it exudes understated elegance – burnished dark wood accents abound and gorgeous thick rugs are scattered about the hardwood floors. Several tasting experiences are available here:
Morning Bites & Wine Flight: Visitors may start their wine tasting day with a flight of four wines, paired with a croissant, cheese and chocolate is offered in the Chateau. Reservations recommended.
Private Tailored Wine Experience: Guests may customize their tasting selections to include library wines (including magnums), white wines, red wines, Bordeaux varieties and Burgundy varieties. Reservations recommended.
Seated Chateau Reserve Tasting: Guests enjoy a delicious flight of wines as they relax and take in the breathtaking views. This experience is hosted on the Chateau Patio, weather permitting, or in the Chateau Dining Room. This tasting is accompanied with an artisan cheese plate. Reservations required.
