CHATEAU ST. JEAN
Where Romance, Unique Tastings
and Passionate Winemaking Come Together
When it comes to romance in Sonoma County wine country, Chateau St. Jean is an unparalleled destination. With scenic views of the Mayacamas Mountains flanking the winery’s eastern side and abundant estate vineyards spanning the property, the winery’s surroundings are a beautiful sight to behold. Vivid and bountiful Mediterranean-styled gardens pave the way with their exotic trees, stunning flowers and soothing fountains, upon approaching the estate – welcoming guests for what will be a truly unforgettable wine country experience.
A New Experience: Chef’s Table Tasting
Inside the winery, guests are encouraged to indulge in one of many unique wine tasting experiences offered at Chateau St. Jean. The Chef’s Table tasting is fun and educational, and includes a guided leisure tour of the beautiful estate grounds with a glass of wine in hand. Guests will stroll through the bountiful spring gardens while learning all about Chateau St. Jean’s rich history in Sonoma County, then be seated in the original dining room of the property’s historic 1920s chateau for a decadent wine and food pairing experience. Enjoy exclusive wines paired with an assortment of amuse-bouche, prepared by the talented Chef Skyler. Reservations for this experience are required and are only available Friday through Sunday.
Unlock the Chateau
For a truly unique experience, Unlock the Chateau offers a mystery-style wine tasting, riding on the coattails of the “escape room” craze. Guests have one hour to solve numerous puzzles and riddles by using clues and hints to unlock the “secret” of the Chateau. Enjoy a welcome glass of sparkling wine, a glass of wine when you unlock the second room, and a wine and cheese pairing when you escape! This experience requires a minimum of six people and is available Friday through Monday with prior reservations.
Winemaking with Heart
In addition to the unparalleled romance and unique tasting experiences offered at Chateau St. Jean, what truly makes this estate special is Winemaker Margo Van Staaveren’s incredible 40-year tenureship at Chateau St. Jean. Her commitment and passion to making wine for this estate has earned her countless accolades, and when tasting her wines, her talent and heart are both equally expressed.
Margo oversees Chateau St. Jean’s extensive portfolio of Sonoma County wines, as well as vineyard designated wines, limited-production Reserve wines and the flagship Cinq Cépages Cabernet Sauvignon. Her commitment to growing high-quality grapes to make great wine, and her talent in the cellar when it comes to blending blocks, vineyards and varietals, is what makes her winemaking such a mastered craft. Her focus is on crafting consistently high-quality wines that are recognizable each year, while still maintaining individuality and unique characteristics vintage after vintage. Margo is only the fourth winemaker in Chateau St. Jean’s history, and she has held this role – in addition to the role of General Manager – since 2003, having worked her way up from her first role as Laboratory Technician in 1980.
