Chateau St. Jean

An Evolving Sonoma Icon

Jillian Baker

Nestled in the charming town of Kenwood in the heart of Sonoma wine country, Chateau St. Jean was founded in 1973 and quickly established itself as a producer of fine wines and a pioneer in crafting exceptional single-vineyard wines. Chateau St. Jean consistently receives awards and accolades year after year. In fact, it was the first Sonoma winery to receive “Wine of the Year” by Wine Spectator for the Cinq Cépages Bordeaux-style blend. Since the release of the 1975 Belle Terre Vineyard Chardonnay, Chateau St. Jean has been producing exceptional single vineyard wines as well as single varietal wines featured in their Appellation Collection – wines that thrive in distinct Sonoma County AVAs including Alexander Valley, Dry Creek Valley and Sonoma Coast. These wines capture the very best characteristics unique to each region. You can choose from a range of tasting options and experiences, but be sure to have a taste of the Cinq Cepages before you leave!

Enjoy the Estate

As you turn off of busy Highway 12 and onto the long driveway that takes you away from the hustle and bustle, you are led toward the stunning Mayacamas mountain range that serves as the backdrop for Chateau St. Jean winery. As you enter the property, you’ll notice the refined and peaceful ambiance. The beautiful landscaping and gardens invite you in toward the two tasting rooms and expansive gift shop. The different tasting experiences and phenomenal wines will make you want to explore the entire portfolio. The elegant, approachable atmosphere will make it so you never want to leave.
Enjoy a bottle of wine with friends on the Grand Lawn or at a picnic table with the winery’s own bottle service, which allows your group to relax and enjoy the beauty of the winery’s grounds and gardens. This includes a reserved location on the property, a bottle of wine and a cheese and charcuterie plate per every five guests. From classic tastings to food and wine pairings to bocce and picnics, there are many ways to enjoy your time at Chateau St Jean.
