The Legacy of Music and Family

B.R. Cohn Winery is home to a wonderful combination of wine, music and family, all of which are passions of winery proprietor Bruce Cohn.

Since 1970, Bruce has been the long- time manager of American rock icons The Doobie Brothers. In a career-defining moment, Bruce purchased the Olive Hill Estate Vineyards in 1974. He then started making wine under his own label and founded B.R. Cohn Winery in 1984. Bruce named it the Olive Hill Estate Vineyards after the historic grove of Picholine olive trees that surround the winery, imported from France in the mid-1800s. (Be sure to taste the Estate Picholine Olive Oil.)

Today, visitors taste wines at the B.R. Cohn Winery’s Tasting Room and sample the delicious olive oils and vinegars in the cute Gourmet Shop.

For $10, guests will be delighted to select four wines from a list of award winning wines.  The tasting fee is refundable with purchase.  

On a recent Thursday, my daughter and I found ourselves in the B.R. Cohn Tasting Room and enjoyed a great selection of fantastic wines.  The 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon from the B.R. Cohn Olive Hill Estate Vineyards most specifically caught my eye. Reasonably priced at $55 per bottle, this well-balanced, silky red boasted luscious aromas and flavors of red cherry, black currants and ripe plums.   

Also included in the BR Cohn Tasting Menu are:
2010 Robledo Vineyards Chardonnay: 100% barrel-fermented premium Carneros fruit gives rise to a clean white wine bursting with pear and tropical fruit notes and just the right amount of oak; $35.

2009 Russian River Pinot Noir: A classic Russian River Pinot, this red wine is a sumptuous exploration of black cherries, strawberries intermingled with warm earthy spices. Aged 19 months in French oak; $40.

2009 Sonoma Valley Primitivo: Sourced locally from the Shumahi Vineyards in Glen Ellen, this delicious wine offers aromas of berry and black cherry with a hint of white pepper and a long finish; aged 18 months in French oak; $32.
