Spring time, the time of rebirth. Spring 2018 is a special one for Armida Winery! After almost 25 years Armida has a new logo, package, hospitality venues, and tasting and food experiences. The new package was developed to reflect the quality of the wines, and the culture and soul of the winery. It features a dome —the three main winery buildings are distinctive Buckminster Fuller geodesic domes. Laser cut, the new dome icon on Armida’s label is both idiosyncratic and playful, the color of the wine shining through the dome providing contrast. The dome represents interconnectedness—a confluence of family, friends, employees, customers, growers and suppliers—that make it all work and makes the often daunting effort worthwhile. To celebrate the new package and logo, Armida is releasing a new wine, Domus Alba (white dome), a proprietary blend of barrel fermented and barrel aged Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc.
Discover new hospitality sites, both large and small, to enjoy Armida’s always outstanding wines from some of Sonoma’s best growers—Maple Vineyards Zinfandel, Gap’s Crown Pinot Noir, Tina’s Block Zinfandel, Durell Vineyard Chardonnay, Gap’s Crown Chardonnay and Stuhlmuller Vineyard Block 8 Cabernet Sauvignon. Be sure not to miss two of my favorites, both estate grown— Il Campo Estate Field Blend and Redwood Estate Sauvignon Blanc. You’ll have a tough time choosing between the tasting options which include stand-up tastings at the bar by the large view window in tasting room, seated tastings in the tasting room (downstairs) or upstairs lounge, seated terrace tastings on the expansive patio, and sit-down tastings for couples or small groups on the Wedding Deck overlooking the pond and Russian River Valley. If you’ve got time to plan, be sure to call and ask about their Private Barrel Room Tastings with the winemaker - Winemaker Exploration Tastings [A Cool Climate Ultra-Premium Tasting and a California Heritage Grape (Zinfandel!) Tasting.] Armida also offers you the opportunity to create a fully customized winery experience. (You’ll want to make sure to plan well in advance for these unique, curated experiences.)
Of course, those of you who have already visited Armida know the best part is the warm welcome and fun, homey atmosphere. From day one owners and operators, brothers Steve and Bruce Cousins, insisted that all visitors to the winery enjoy a relaxed, comfortable and family atmosphere. “We make great wine and relish sharing it,” Bruce said. “Yet I really get a kick out of our visitors feeling like they are at our ‘home,’ familiar and fun.” Steve notes, “We are a very small winery and almost all of our wines are available only here. This attracts many folks to our wine clubs, ensuring they’ll receive these special, small-lot wines.” “So many of our wine club members have become friends, some, very good friends!” adds Bruce. Bruce and Steve are hands-on owners so don’t be surprised if you see them when you visit the winery. Be sure to also look for winemaker extraordinaire, Brandon Lapides, who loves nothing more than sharing some Armida hospitality while pouring wine.
Another example of this unusual winery that makes seriously good wine but makes sure they, and everybody else associated with them delights in the journey, is POIZIN, the Wine to Die For! This Zinfandel with its vibrant skull and crossbones label is one of Armida’s most popular wines. And, if you imbibe too much POIZIN, Armida’s got you covered with ANTIDOTE, a delicious white blend (80% Semillon, 20% Chardonnay) in a cobalt blue bottle.
Whether you come for the wine, the view, the bocce, the new experiences or the sincere welcome, you’ll leave a friend, perhaps even family.
