Alapay Cellars: Visiting is Like a Mini-Vacation

Located in beautiful downtown Avila Beach, the Alapay Cellars tasting room is the perfect place for a relaxing wine experience. When you walk through the doors, the beachy décor complete with two large fish aquariums remind you that you are just minutes from the ocean. With the large number of tourists heading to Avila the general mood in the tasting room is typical of happy vacationers.

Winemaker/owners, Scott and Rebecca Remmenga offer a wide range of wines for tasting. They source grapes from vineyards in Paso Robles, Edna Valley and Santa Ynez to produce some familiar wines such as Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon in addition to a few that are a little harder to find like Lagrein and Tempranillo. Also on the tasting list are a Santa Barbara County Viognier, a Paso Robles Grenache Blanc and for those looking for a fun dessert wine a Late Harvest Sauvignon Blanc has was released with “his and hers” bottles. Scott has done an incredible job making wines that are very approachable and the list of gold medals and a recent best of class award indicate he is a winemaker to watch.

Knowing that many people are intimidated by wine, Rebecca has gone out of her way to make Alapay Cellars tasting room “one without the attitude.” According to Rebecca, “We like to help people relax and make learning about wine and wine tasting an entertaining and enjoyable experience.”

A visit to the tasting room can give you the sense of a mini vacation. The tasting room is open daily from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

While you are there be sure to join the wine club to receive the winemaker’s selection of six wines and an Alapay gift twice per year.
